NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Dec. 17, 2014 - Today, Heritage Medical Associates announced the intention to acquire Summit Medical Associates, a practice of 24 primary care physicians, hospitalists and advanced practitioners, with offices in Hermitage and Mt. Juliet, following a meeting of the shareholders for Heritage held Tuesday evening, December 16.  The combined entity will have 14 locations, in six cities, across three counties with 135 providers serving an active population of 150,000 patients.

Summit’s acquisition furthers the vision of Heritage Medical Associates to offer unrivaled patient care across middle Tennessee.  “Expanding our footprint through this acquisition allows the Heritage family to continue to live its values while seeking methodical, intentional growth opportunities,” said Chetan Mukundan, M.D., president – Heritage Medical Associates. “To that end, enlarging our reach in additional areas of suburban Nashville with independent physician groups of like-minded professionals is important to Heritage’s planning for success in today’s healthcare climate.”  The merger is intended to provide easier access for patients, additional specialty services and pooled administrative resources.

“We have followed the success of Summit for many years. The practice’s holistic approach to patient care, coupled with their primary care emphasis and dedicated, professional team, directly align with our business model,” continued Mukundan.  “As we grow together, we will leverage our insights and expertise to benefit the patients and communities we serve."

Summit’s president and physician leader, William Baucom, M.D., expresses confidence as well.  “As Heritage celebrates 23 years of service to the people of greater Nashville, I am certain that the new resources provided to our patients through the merger will continue our  investment in population health management and the expansion of our patient-centered medical home,” Baucom says. “We are eager for the next chapter of development as part of the Heritage family.”
