A native of Macon, Georgia, Dr. Cato enjoys fly fishing, refinishing furniture, and playing golf. He and his wife have a son and a daughter who have both finished college. Dr. Cato holds both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Vanderbilt University, and performed his internship and residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
He served as Chief Resident in Medicine at Nashville's Veteran's Administration Hospital and received the J. William Hillman Award for teaching. Board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Cato is currently associate clinical professor of medicine at Vanderbilt and a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He currently serves on the Board of Alive Hospice in Nashville.
