It is with a heavy heart that we share that Dr. Rowland Hawkins passed away suddenly in March 2019. Dr. Hawkins was loved and highly respected, both within HMA and throughout the Middle Tennessee community. Known for treating his patients and colleagues like family, and for his signature greeting of "Happy Day," Dr. Hawkins will be greatly missed.

Dr. Kerr is a native Nashvillian. She earned a B.A. in chemistry at the University of Virginia. After teaching high school science for one year, she attended the University of Virginia School of Medicine where she earned her Doctor of Medicine degree. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and subsequently completed her residency in ophthalmology at the Vanderbilt University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.

Sahar Kohanim, MD, MPH, is an expert in the field of ophthalmology; a widely published author; award-winning researcher; and guest editor for national and international journals. Dr. Parker was born and raised in Nashville. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Vanderbilt University. He completed his internship at Riverside Regional Hospital in Virginia. He then completed his residency at the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Dr. Allison Smith was a Chemistry major at Princeton University and received her MD at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After completing an internship at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan, she obtained her ophthalmology training at the University of California at Davis. She was board certified in ophthalmology and spent three years practicing general ophthalmology in the Silicon Valley near San Francisco.
