What made you decide to become a doctor? Initially, I majored in Economics in college and planned on going into business, but I quickly realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. My dad was a radiologist, and I had always been fascinated by the sciences and the advancements in healthcare, so I went to medical school! And I couldn’t be happier that I made the switch. I love helping people feel better when they are sick. It is extremely rewarding to me, and I am so grateful to be able to wake up in the morning and know that I have the chance to give back to others.
What about the way you practice medicine makes you special? One thing I do that many physicians don’t is that I practice inpatient medicine, meaning I admit and care for patients when they need to be hospitalized. I have been practicing this way ever since I finished my residency, so not only do I have a lot of experience in this area, but I truly enjoy this aspect of treatment. If a patient of mine needs to be hospitalized, I want to be sure that I am there caring for their health and supporting them along the way.
If you could describe your philosophy for treating patients, what would it be? Overall, I like to focus on preventative health and maintaining a high quality of life for my patients. It is very rewarding for me to see patients with chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease lead well-balanced, healthy lives, and I enjoy doing anything I can to help support their wellness and quality of life.
Tell us about a little more about your hobbies! What do you like to do for fun? I love spending time with my son, who’s 14, and my daughter, who’s 11. They both play travel soccer, so I watch them play as much as I can. I also enjoy being active outside, especially during the winter when I can ski and snowboard. I just went on a wilderness adventure in Canada, and we went fishing, canoeing, backpacking, and hiking…I love being outdoors!
