About

Dr. Harrell graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and was a member of the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. He also received the Albert Weinstein Prize in Medicine at graduation. He completed his primary care internal medicine residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., before returning to Nashville in 1997 to practice medicine at Heritage.

He is a member of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Harrell’s practice focuses on preventative medicine for adults. His goal is to help people maintain their good health, and to help them manage both acute and chronic diseases when these problems arise. He is particularly interested in diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, but he cares for people with a wide variety of health problems.

His patients range in age from 16 to over 100. Dr. Harrell grew up in Florida, although his family is originally from East and Middle Tennessee. His undergraduate major was in chemistry at Davidson College in North Carolina. He is married. His wife Susan teaches piano. He enjoys college athletics, photography, genealogy, and travel.
